Rideau! (Curtain)

At the premiere of Erik Satie’s scandalous ballet Parade anti-art protestors stormed the stage shouting “Curtain!” to stop the show. But it wasn’t just a piece of fabric that adorned the stage – it was a work of art by Pablo Picasso. Curtain! evolves from the absurd to the sublime, combining music, performance, movement and minimalism. The creative chaos of contrarian Satie is absorbed into the contemplative silence of his pupil in spirit John Cage.
